General description:

The chestnut is characterized by the premature growing of the heartwood, that is why it has a thin sapwood that is clearly distinguished. It looks similar to oak, but without the typical ray flecks. Among its pros there are the hardness and moisture resistance.

Histological Structure:
Grain: straight and sometimes spiral
Texture: from medium to coarse

Treatability: sapwood is moderately treatable, heartwood is untreatable.

Processing:
Sawing: easy.
Drying: slow with a risk of collapse and cracks.
Planing: easy.
Gluing: easy.
Nailing and screwing: pre-drilling recommended.
Finishing: not so easy.

Main uses:
Structural wood, beams for water contact, interior and exterior rustically furniture, coatings, doors, windows, parquet, decorative veneers.
